CARNIVAL

What is carnival?

Carnival is a celebration of colour, masks and freedom of expression — a time when art, imagination and tradition come together in a spectacle of creativity. In many cultures it symbolises the transition from winter to spring and the joy before Lent. The tradition dates back to antiquity, with its peak on Shrove Tuesday, marked by grand parades and masquerades.

A global tradition

Carnival is today a worldwide phenomenon. Rio Carnival is famous for its samba rhythms and extravagant costumes, Venice Carnival for its refined masks and historical elegance, while Mardi Gras in New Orleans brings vibrant parades and a rich urban spirit. Slovenia has its own carnival heritage — Kurentovanje in Ptuj, one of the largest ethnographic festivals in Europe

The Carneval theme opens up the whole world

Find your inspiration in lavish masks, feathers, sequins, theatrical drama or fantastical carnival imagery. Through your work, express the energy of celebration, the mystery of masks and the richness of colour — from both traditional and contemporary carnival expressions around the world.

Silvia GAGO

known as Toxic Vanity, is an International Master Nail Artist, NIJ Certified International Judge, and educator with over 25 years of artistic experience. She is a multiple award winning competitor with 22 international awards, competing at the highest Division 3 level. She has developed her own teaching methodology and has educated over 10,000 students worldwide.
